How this site is paid for

What it costs, and who carries it

A domain, a hosting account and the time to build and check it. All of that is carried by Honeygoat GmbH. The data itself is free: NOAA and the National Weather Service publish it as US federal government work in the public domain.

What is planned

Two things, and you will be able to see both the moment they arrive:

• Display advertising. Ad slots served by an advertising partner. Those slots load code from a company that, unlike our self-hosted analytics, sets its own cookies and tracks across sites — which is why ourprivacy page will change again in the same release, this time with a cookie notice.
• Affiliate links. Links to gear, charters or boat hire, where a purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Every such link will be marked as one where it stands, not only on this page.

What money does not buy

This is the part that matters, and it is a rule we can be held to because the decisions are written down:

• Which towns get a page. A town gets a page when an official NOAA station covers it, and not otherwise. Well-searched places are left out for that reason alone — the about page names them and says why.
• Which station a town is matched to. Decided by which station shows the water people are actually standing in, not by anything commercial.
• The numbers. Tide times, weather and the boating, beach and fishing verdicts come out of the data. No advertiser sees them before you do, and none of them can be adjusted.

Why you are reading this at all

The US Federal Trade Commission requires anyone with a material connection to a product — a commission, a free sample, a partnership — to disclose it clearly, close to the recommendation. That obligation is met at the link itself. This page exists so that the whole arrangement is in one place, and so that the day something changes, there is a page that has to change with it.
